Salem News:
I had all but given up seeking help from major newspapers & TV producers and being ignored. Even New York Times , Washington Post, & Wall Street Journal editors were not interested in my story. President Bush’s gag orders were very effective in protecting billionaire stock broker Charles Schwab.
Then one day I came across an article in Salem News, a local online news source whose chief editor was photojournalist Tim King. I was hesitant, but he sounded like an ungagged renegade so I decided to try one more time. I wrote to him and was excited by his quick response. He told me he was interested in my story and wanted to meet with me.
Tim & his wife Bonnie drove down from Salem with their huge video camera & I was soon sitting out on my patio being interview. No script, no rehearsal, no makeup, nervous… An experienced journalist, Tim King asked the questions, his wife Bonnie operated the camera, and I tried to answer the questions. We met at their home in Salem a couple times to discuss my story in preparation for articles they would publish.
This was more excitement than I could handle. especially Tim warned me that after his articles were published my story would go viral & I would be overwhelmed by journalists. He advised I make plans for a quick escape in case the frenzie became to great.
Despite all his years as a photojournalist Tim discovered just how naïve he was about presidential gag orders that provided a quick method of silencing would be trouble makers. The federal & state governments we learned to believe in are a total fraud. Needless to say, when Tim’s articles did not receive the attention we anticipated, his balloon was burst. He was much more let down than me because he was not yet aware the US was not a democratic country that in reality did not have a free press. The Constitution & Bill of Rights were relics that expressed the best intentions of America’s founders.
When a friend asked Sigmund Freud what he thought about America’s Democracy & Capitalism, he responded, “America is the greatest experiment of mankind, but I’m afraid it will never work.”
